Mazda shifting hard or stuck in limp mode? Check the TCM.
When a Mazda's automatic transmission suddenly shifts harshly, holds one gear or throws the check-engine light, the transmission itself is often fine. The problem is the transmission control module (TCM), the small computer that tells it when to shift.

Signs of a failing Mazda TCM
- • Harsh, delayed or flared shifts
- • Stuck in one gear (limp mode), usually 3rd
- • Check-engine or AT warning light on
- • Transmission codes like P0700 or solenoid circuit faults
- • Problems that come and go with heat or bumps
- • No communication with the TCM on a scan tool
Why Mazda TCMs fail
The TCM lives in a hot, vibrating spot and switches the transmission's solenoids thousands of times a day. Over the years, solder joints crack and driver parts on the board wear out. Then the module sends the wrong signals, or none at all.
A new TCM from the dealer is expensive and usually has to be programmed to the car. Repairing your original module keeps its programming, so it goes back in without a dealer visit.

Questions buyers ask before sending it in
How do I know if my Mazda TCM is bad?
Common signs are harsh or delayed shifts, being stuck in one gear, the AT or check-engine light, and codes that point to the transmission's control or solenoid circuits.
Is it the TCM or the transmission?
Check the fluid and read the codes first. Problems that come and go, electrical codes, or a TCM that won't talk to a scan tool point to the module.
Does the TCM need programming after repair?
No. We repair your original module, so it keeps its programming and plugs back in.
What if you can't fix it?
No fix, no charge. Every repair has a 1-year warranty.
