Infiniti G35 RE5R05A TCU repair

A G35 that enters failsafe, loses a shift or stores P1757/P1759 needs diagnosis before a transmission replacement is authorized. TMW Repairs offers $299 mail-in electronic repair of eligible original internal RE5R05A transmission control units. This is a repair service, not a module for sale. Ship only your TCU—not the whole valve body. You may include solenoids for free testing.

Symptoms: limp mode, missing shifts and solenoid circuit codes

  • • Failsafe or limp mode with restricted gear operation
  • • Harsh, delayed or missing shifts
  • • Intermittent loss of drive that has been traced to the control electronics
  • • Transmission solenoid circuit faults such as P1752, P1757, P1762, P1767 or P1772 after wiring and solenoid diagnosis
  • • A technician-confirmed internal TCU fault; a code alone is not a diagnosis

How the TCU works, what the codes mean and what we repair

TCU and TCM both refer to the transmission computer. RE5R05A is a five-speed automatic family used in several Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, but shared transmission naming does not mean every controller or valve body interchanges.

The controller uses vehicle operating signals to manage electronic gear changes and transmission solenoid operation. When the system detects a fault, it may restrict gear operation in failsafe mode. Harsh shifts, missing shifts or limp mode can have electronic, electrical, hydraulic or mechanical causes; these symptoms alone do not establish that the transmission needs replacement or that the TCU needs repair.

ATRA documents two controller layouts: an external controller on early vehicles and an internal controller on later vehicles. This service targets the internal unit only. Early G35 units and mid-year revisions must be identified physically; we do not automatically include 2003–2004 cars.

These are TCM-controlled automatic-transmission solenoid codes—not ABS or wheel-brake codes. In RE5R05A terminology, ‘front brake’ and ‘low coast brake’ name friction elements inside the transmission. They do not refer to the vehicle's front wheel brakes.

P0740 — Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid circuit.

P0744 — Torque converter clutch (TCC) function / excessive slip.

P0745 — Line-pressure control (EPC) solenoid circuit.

P1752 — Input clutch solenoid circuit.

P1754 — Input clutch solenoid function.

P1757 — Front brake solenoid circuit (internal transmission element, not ABS).

P1759 — Front brake solenoid function (internal transmission element, not ABS).

P1762 — Direct clutch solenoid circuit.

P1764 — Direct clutch solenoid function.

P1767 — High and low/reverse clutch solenoid circuit.

P1769 — High and low/reverse clutch solenoid function.

P1772 — Low coast brake solenoid circuit (internal transmission element).

P1774 — Low coast brake solenoid function (internal transmission element).

Circuit codes concern the electrical solenoid-control circuit and can involve wiring, grounds, connectors, a solenoid or the TCM. Function codes concern the commanded transmission response, often an incorrect gear ratio; P0744 concerns excessive torque-converter clutch slip. Function/slip codes can involve hydraulic, valve-body, clutch or converter faults as well as control problems. They are not a guarantee that electronic TCU repair will resolve the complaint.

If P1757 and P1759 appear together or return after clearing, save the complete scan report and freeze-frame information where available. Check power, grounds, connectors, fluid condition, solenoids and mechanical operation using the exact vehicle's service information. Other stored codes should be reviewed rather than assumed to be covered by this repair. Continued driving with loss of engagement or severe shift faults can be unsafe; arrange professional diagnosis.

The $299 listing purchases mail-in electronic repair and testing of your original eligible internal TCU. You send your controller, we assess and repair eligible electronic faults, and the same unit is returned. It is not a ready-to-ship replacement part. Optional solenoids included with the TCU are tested free of charge; replacement solenoids and a hydraulic or full transmission overhaul are not included.

We repair and test your own TCU instead of selling a donor module. This is not a hydraulic valve-body overhaul, a transmission rebuild, or a replacement-programming service. Original configuration is retained where intact, but the installer must follow OEM setup and relearn requirements; we do not promise that every application needs no setup.

Year-specific G35 and related RE5R05A applications

  • • Infiniti G35 2005–2007 and G35 sedan 2008: five-speed automatic internal TCU only, subject to VIN, build date and exact unit identification. Coupe/sedan and RWD/AWD revisions differ.
  • • Nissan 350Z 2005–2008, Infiniti FX35 2005–2008 and FX45 2005–2008: related five-speed applications, individually checked before ordering or shipment. These listings are repair applications, not parts-interchange promises.
  • • Other RE5R05A applications include select Nissan trucks and SUVs and other Infiniti models. Ask with VIN and label photos first; unverified years or revisions are not automatically supported.
  • • External TCUs, manual transmissions, CVTs and seven-speed units are excluded. This is not a G37 service. Do not infer eligibility from the model name alone.
  • • Send the actual TCU label or housing identifier. No guessed universal OEM part number is listed because controller and valve-body numbers vary by vehicle, drive type and revision.

Don't see yours? Ask us with the part number from the label.

How the mail-in service works

  1. Send VIN, year/model, engine, RWD/AWD, build date, diagnostic codes and clear TCU/label photos to tmwrepairs@gmail.com. Confirm eligibility before ordering or removing the unit.
  2. Choose the $299 repair listing for your exact vehicle year. Follow the site's order and shipping instructions.
  3. Have a qualified technician remove the TCU. Ship only the TCU, never the whole valve body. Solenoids are optional and will be tested free of charge if included.
  4. We inspect the original TCU, repair eligible electronic faults and test the repaired unit. The same original unit is returned.
  5. Have the original repaired TCU professionally reinstalled. Complete the applicable OEM diagnostic checks, setup/relearn procedures and road test.

Before you ship it

  • • Protect the TCU and connectors in a rigid box with suitable cushioning. Do not ship the whole valve body.
  • • If including solenoids for free testing, protect and identify each separately. Free testing does not include replacement solenoids or hydraulic overhaul.
  • • Include order number, email, vehicle details and diagnosis. Phone is optional but encouraged.
  • • Ask before sending units with severe corrosion, fluid contamination or prior modification. Repairability is assessed, not guaranteed.
  • • 1-year limited repair warranty; shipping and optional extras are separate. If your module can't be repaired, we return it to you and you pay a flat $20 return shipping.

Frequently asked

Questions buyers ask before sending it in

How much is G35 TCU repair?

$299 for an eligible original internal TCU repair. Shipping and optional paid extras are separate. Optional solenoid testing costs $0.

Do I send the whole valve body?

No. Ship only the TCU, never the whole valve body. Have a qualified technician remove and protect it.

Can I send solenoids with the TCU?

Yes, optionally. Solenoids included with your TCU are tested free of charge. Testing does not include replacement parts or a hydraulic overhaul.

Does P1757 or P1759 prove the TCU is bad?

No. The control electronics, solenoid circuit, connectors and wiring must be checked. Diagnose the actual cause before paying for repair.

What does P1757 mean on an RE5R05A transmission?

P1757 concerns the front brake solenoid circuit inside the automatic transmission—not ABS or front wheel brakes. Wiring, connectors, solenoid and TCM electronics require diagnosis; the code alone does not prove the TCU is defective.

Which transmission solenoid codes should I send with my repair inquiry?

Send the full scan report. Relevant RE5R05A solenoid codes include P0740, P0744, P0745, P1752/P1754, P1757/P1759, P1762/P1764, P1767/P1769 and P1772/P1774. These cover torque-converter clutch, line-pressure, input clutch, front brake, direct clutch, high and low/reverse clutch, and low coast brake circuits/functions. Code support and diagnostic steps vary by year and controller revision; not every code indicates a repairable TCM fault.

What does P1759 mean, and how is it different from P1757?

P1759 is the front brake solenoid valve function code: an incorrect operating response has been detected. P1757 concerns the circuit, while P1759 concerns function. The technician must follow the exact vehicle's diagnostic procedure, including checking hydraulic or mechanical causes where applicable.

What symptoms can an internal TCU fault cause?

A diagnosed internal controller fault may accompany limp/failsafe operation, restricted gears, harsh or delayed shifts, missing shifts or intermittent engagement. Those symptoms also have other possible causes and do not by themselves establish TCU failure.

Will I receive a replacement TCU?

No. This is repair of your original unit, which is returned to you. No replacement module is sold.

Does it need programming or relearning?

Original configuration is retained where intact, but follow the applicable OEM installation, setup and relearn requirements. Replacement-controller procedures are different; no universal no-programming guarantee is made.

Do all RE5R05A vehicles use the same TCU?

No. Early external and later internal controllers, build-date revisions, drive type and vehicle applications differ. Send VIN and label photos for confirmation.

What if it cannot be repaired?

If your module can't be repaired, we return it to you and you pay a flat $20 return shipping.
